Kuş gözlemciliği, doğadaki kuşların çıplak gözle veya görüntülemeye yardımcı dürbün, teleskop, fotoğraf makinesi gibi bir araçla gözlemlenmesi etkinliğine verilen addır. Kuşları doğada ve laboratuar ortamında bilimsel yöntemler kullanarak taksonomik, morfolojik ve fizyolojik yönlerden inceleyen kuş bilimcisinden (ornitolog) farklı olarak, kuş gözlemcisi bu canlıları uzaktan ve hiçbir müdahalede bulunmaksızın hobi olarak izlemek, fotoğraflamak, videoya çekmek yada ses kayıt cihazlarıyla ötüşlerini kaydetmek ile yetinir. Gezegenimizde yaklaşık 10.000 ve sadece Türkiye’de 465 adet farklı kuş türü yaşamaktadır. Bugüne kadar vahşi doğada en fazla sayıda kuş türü gözlemleyebilmiş kişi Amerikalı bayan Phoebe Snetsinger (1931-1999) olup Alaska’dan Madagaskar’a kadar dünyanın çeşitli bölgelerine yaptığı yolculuklarda 8674 farklı kuş türünü gözlemleyip kaydetmiştir.

Birdwatching is the observation of birds in nature with the naked eye or through a visual enhancement device such as binoculars, telescope or camera. Unlike ornithologists who study the birds from taxonomic, morphological and physiological aspects in nature and in laboratories using scientific methods, birdwatchers observe these creatures without any intervention and just take photos or videos or record their calls. There are about 10.000 species of birds in our planet and 465 different species only in Turkey. The person who was able to observe the highest number of bird species in the wilderness was Phoebe Snetsinger (1931-1999), an American lady who observed and recorded 8674 different bird species during the journeys she made in various regions of the world from Alaska to Madagascar.
